New Studio Office Revealed!

What started off as a new wood floor ended up turning into a full studio/office make over.
I'm very happy how the final look turned out. I would have to say it is my favorite room in my house. Which is a good thing because I spend 75% of my time at home in my studio. I even find myself just sitting in silence relaxing in the fresh clean space.

I'm still kicking myself for not taking a before picture, so here is the earliest picture I took. The yellow walls started reminding me of baby poop so they had to go.

Here is the final look. It turned out so good!

I have a small obsession with plants & maps right now. They added the perfect touches to this room. I currently have 10 live plants in here. Let's hope I can keep them alive.

Using the elements and principles of design, I hope these tips can help you as you create new wall designs in your home!
Here we go!
First, I measured the space and decide the shape I wanted my arrangement to be: square, rectangular, circular, or abstract. For this arrangement I choose rectangular to fill the space above the sofa:





I then selected the pieces I wanted to put together and put them on the floor.
{This is a great way to get started because you can visualize it, play with it, take a picture of it, and then put it on your wall without multiple nail holes.}




A. Lining up edges of the art pieces creates an invisible border to the design as well as a sense of order and balance.
B. The shelf below adds visible weight to the left side balancing out the larger piece of art on the right.
C. Decorating in odd numbers is move visibly pleasing to the eye than even numbers. {Example: three main pieces, three items on the shelf}.
D. Coordinating the same colors throughout the design creates a sense of harmony and emphasis.
For this arrangement I decided to go a little more abstract.



I needed to fill the space above a table, so the first thing I did was measure the table and placed the measuring tape on the floor. This gave me the exact space I wanted to fill.



A. Keeping your arrangement centralized over a table or couch creates a vignette or a relationship with the items around it and ties everything together.

B. Keeping the items between 2” – 4” apart allows the entire design to look cohesive and keeps items from looking like they are floating away.

C. Don’t be afraid to mix frame types, even if they’re different metals or colors. As long as they are repeated a couple of times in the arrangement, it will look great!

D. Make sure there are multiple shapes in the arrangement. This will look better as well as add more visual interest. {Example: the frames are rectangular, but the floral arrangement has a triangular base and the flowers are round.  There are also oval and round elements on the table below.}

E. A tip to doing abstract arrangements: use the step-down method: have one side higher than the other and step each element down. Notice how the left side is higher and then it steps down to the floral and then down again…it’s the design principle called repetition. {This is a great look over a staircase as it repeats the shape of the stairs.}

Simple Gestures of Kindness Leave the Biggest Impressions

Today I witness a small act done by a business that impressed me so much that I would like to share it with you;
I was standing in line picking up an order of frames. When I man came in to pick up a special request he had called in early. When he went to pay for the wood piece he had requested the man at the counter handed him the piece & said no worries it's on us.  It caught him of guard, he was speechless for a minute by this simple gesture. He then thanked the men & went on his way.
They had never done business with this man. They didn't owe him anything. But yet they spent the time to cut this wood piece out for him & didn't charge him a penny for there time. I'm not sure who was more impressed by this gesture the man or me. It made me proud to do business with them. Who new such a simple gesture could make such a big impression.


So a big THANK YOU to the Men over at Best Woods in Orem, Utah for proving that people still care & for making me want to be a better person. Let's all do our part and share these simple gestures of kindness without expecting anything in return.

Here is a quick background of myself & my how I started my business: I am a Mother of 2 little boys from Springville Utah. I was due with my 2nd child when my husband and I decided we needed to make a life change to have our children brought up by one of us rather than a daycare provider. Having a one income family wasn't an option so I picked up a night job doing graphic design where I am still currently working a full time job from 4:00pm-12:30am. In between work & being a mother I began creating artwork & cute ways to display them. I began selling them to friends, family & the local craft shops. I soon got the attention of a Local Frame shop that started buying my artwork to sell in there store & to there clients.
January 2009 I contacted an Art Publishing company that was interested in pick up my art to sell in stores & to license into products. Since then my Art has been sold in Stores all over the Country like Deseret Book, Seagull Book, Kirklands Home Decor, Walmart, Target, Micheal's, Hobby Lobby, Bedbath & Beyond & Kohl. You can also find my pieces on sale on multiple Art websites like Art.com & Allposters.com
I had no idea my little hobby would turn into such a great business for me.
I have over 1,000 designs and am always designing new artwork. My Artwork ranges in Genres from; Inspirational, Religious, Love, Family, Kids, Kitchen, Bath, Fruits, Floral & more.

My dreams are to one day quit my night job and be a stay home with my family full time. My family & my Art are my passions in life.
